Carlos has been involved in life science research, technology assessment, strategyconsulting, and valuation since 1990. He has substantial expertise in the assessment andvaluation of life science technologies such as pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical devices. In 2005, Carlos leveraged this experience to form Erie Hudson Life Science Consulting, a boutique firm focused on life science consulting and financial advisory.

From 1998 to 2005, Carlos was a Consultant, then Senior Consultant with The Frankel Group, a New York-based management consulting and venture capital firm. Carlos executed numerous technology assessments for a wide array of life science clients across a range of therapeutic areas, technology classes, and medical services. His clients ranged from venture-backed start ups to multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Centocor and Johnson and Johnson, to investment banks and venture capital firms. From 1998 through 2002, The Frankel Group served as the US office for equity4Life, a Zurich-based venture fund focused on investments in the life sciences. Carlos was directly responsible for many business plan reviews, and took the lead on a number of due diligence efforts, several of which led directly to investment recommendations.

Prior to joining The Frankel Group/equity4Life, Carlos was a member of the New Business Development Group at Genencor International, a biotechnology company which develops, manufactures, and commercializes enzyme based products for the textile, food processing, and other industries. Carlos performed a number of competitive assessments which were presented to Senior Management. In addition, Carlos utilized sophisticated financial modeling techniques (real option, Monte Carlo simulations) to assess various business opportunities for Genencor.

Carlos earned his MBA in Finance and Technology Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Carlos earned his Ph.D. degree in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While earning his doctorate, Carlos practiced as a licensed pharmacist in North Carolina. Carlos’ undergraduate degree is a B.S. in Pharmacy from the Albany College of Pharmacy.
